Mullah Mohammed Omar

Mullah Mohammed Omar is one of the most influential and devoted spiritual leaders and founders of the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. Along with Osama Bin Laden and other Islamic activists, he was behind the 9/11 attacks. Currently, as he fled into hiding and remains at large, Omar is considered to be a serious threat to the USA and its allies. That is why he is among the â€Å"Most Wanted† terrorists, and American Government is ready to pay up to 10 million dollars for any true information bringing to his capture (Rewards for Justice). Born in 1959, he participated in the resistance battles against the Soviet Union army in the Afghan War and was wounded. After the collapse of Soviet regime in Afghanistan, Omar and a group of his loyal supporters (including Bin Laden) organized the Taliban movement. In 1996 this organization, led by former military commanders, took over the power in Afghanistan, making Omar the Ruler (Emir) titled â€Å"Commander of the Faithful†.   He imposed a very tough version of Islamic laws and unlimited severity upon the country. Omar expressed support of devastating attacks on the US in 2001. Like all Taliban leaders, he revealed his extremist viewpoints on the policies of the US. In his interviews right after the tragic events of September 11, he repeatedly underlined seriousness and brutality of terrorist plans: â€Å"..The real matter is the extinction of America..† (BBC). â€Å".. Everyone is afraid of America and wants to please it. But Americans will not be able to prevent such acts like the one that has just occurred [9/11]..† (The Guardian). After the attacks Omar is reported to shelter Bin Laden and his al-Qaeda activists in Afghanistan. But in the end of the year 2001 he was forced to break away from his residence in Kandahar during the military operation. Despite the fact that his current location is unknown, Mullah Omar continuously releases some politically daring or threatening statements, which are delivered by his messengers and spokesmen. Provide Support to Maintain and Develop Skills for Everyday Life Essay

1.1 A skill is simply something someone can do. There are various different means and methods to maintain the skills depending on the individual and the lives they wish to live. If it is to keep their home clean different methods such as signs with instructions on what needs to be done in each room, a Rota, or maybe even just being shown how to do the task at hand. If they are having difficulty with bathing they may need someone supporting them to help them maintain their personal hygiene, aids such as hand rails, special access baths etc. Giving an individual a walking aid to help them maintain their Independence with mobility, a scooter or possibly a guide dog. Approaches to skill development Should be based on factors such as type of skill, capacity, ability, living situation and there personal outcomes. 1.2 There are various reasons why support may be needed to regain or develop skills such as lack of ability or understanding of how to perform skill, lack of confidence, lack of opportunity to develop skills, physical disability, old age, social isolation, mental health, learning disability etc. 1.3 Maintaining, regaining and developing skills can benefit individuals in various ways. It builds on self worth and self-esteem, ensures there are more opportunities and helps regain confidence and independence working towards an altogether better well being and quality of life. 2.1 Skills for life are actions or activate that enable people to live as independently as possible. These may include personal hygiene, eating, preparing meals, dressing and undressing, mobility and transfers i.e. from bed to chair, taking and handling of medication, managing money, using technology, shopping for groceries or clothes. Working with others to  identify skills for everyday life that the individual needs to be supported with will give you a better overall view on their needs. Speaking to family members, friends, colleges, doctors, mental health team, to get everyone input will help your understanding but mainly sourced from a person’s questionnaires and P.C.P tools. The importance of P.C.P planning is that it starts with what someone can do and then looks at where there are gaps where the person may need support. See P.C.P tools attached. 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, P.C.P tools attached 3.1 To help someone maintain or develop skills through active participation is very important. This can help improve their self-esteem and give them more independence. If you have an individual who had a poor diet and cannot cook, giving them information about healthy choices and letting them pick which foods they would like. If someone has no culinary skills it is important you do not cook alone for them and get them involved so they pick up these skills. This could be by you showing them how to peel one potato and having them doing the rest and then showing them how to cook them, the individual could write down these steps so they can be used in the future.in the case of the client I key work we have supported him in learning how to complete a balanced diet shopping list by presenting options suggested to him by his nutritionist in a list then using that list whilst shopping enabling him to have healthier options whilst maintaining his choice and control Unit 311 Provide support to maintain and develop skills for everyday life 3.2 I always give positive and constructive feedback to help encourage the individual and so they can progress in their new skill. If they want to cook a new meal they haven’t done before you could remind them that they have cooked the ingredients before but in a different recipes and reassure them how well they did. If they were to cook a piece of steak that got slightly burnt and overcooked your constructive criticism could be in future to keep it at a lower heat but it was a great first try. I also do regular case studies, reviews and 1-1’s to help show evidence on what affects this has  had on the individual, how they feel and to enable us to promote active participation in a reflective/positive way. 3.3 The actions to take if an individual becomes distressed and unable to continue are to offer reassurance that the person will not come to harm, communicate that you understand their distress, say how well the individual is doing with the everyday skill, seek advice or assistance from a senior colleague, make sure the individual remains safe, suggest stopping the activity. Stopping the activity should normally be an option after other options have been tried. The distress the individual experienced should be recorded, reported so the care plan and if necessary reviewed. 4.1 You need to decide with the individual and others involved in the plan what criteria and process is for evaluating the support. If this individual has aims they needed to reach such as: the individual needs to gain culinary skills and they need to have support bathing. When it comes to the evaluation you need to see if these aims have been met.   Has the goal been achieved? If not, how much progress has been made? How effective is the care to date? Are different forms of care needed? How will this care be provided? 4.2 When i have my agreed role of the goal that needs to be reached i need to evaluate it and decide if anything needs to be changed. If i was to support someone with a physical difficulty and their skill that needed developing was keeping their home clean and it was agreed you would go their twice a week to motivate and support them. When it comes to evaluating the outcome to see if my role is working and i decided that the individual is struggling keeping on top of their housework and i decide this method isn’t working. I need to work with others to decide what can be put in place to make it easier from the individual. 4.3 When i evaluate and discover that a part of the plan isn’t working i revise this. If they were struggling with pushing the hoover and heavy duty chores around the house it could be agreed they could have home help in three times a week to do the chores that are more psychically demanding and they could do easier tasks such as washing dishes, general tidy. The real question here is, Did the fall of the Twin Towers mark the moment of terrorism in America; or have previous events been the calling to attack America? Over the years there have been significant terrorism attacks. By looking at pervious attacks it shows us how the changes in terrorism are carried out and shows the changes in how countries counter terrorist attacks. If we want to know that the Twin Towers where indeed the start of terrorism for America we should look at the history of terrorism, the methodology and the absence of unity America shows toward each other. Looking and studying about the history of terrorism towards the United States, we see that the first attack towards the Twin Towers was the bombing in 1993 that was placed in a truck in the garaged of the building. Reading the book 102 Minutes, we see the perspective of the people who were trapped in the towers, but it also gives us the information about the 1993 bombing. Seeing and knowing about the previous attacks Usama Bin Laden has been putting into action we can see that the Twin Tower collapse was not the moment that terrorism came to America. The Twin Tower attack was more of a statement saying, â€Å"Since you have not taken the 1993 bombing and USS Cole Attack into great consideration maybe hijacking planes and crashing them will open your eyes. † Throughout the past events we can see that Bin Laden put his life into planing these attacks with great passion. In the book The 9/11 Report, we read how the Al Qaeda prepared themselves for the horrific event and the studying they took in to know how to attack and when. â€Å"In the early summer of 2000, the Hamburg group arrived in the United States to begin flight training. All three of these men would be pilots on the 9/11 operation† (Jacobson and Colon 69). These hijackers studied everything they need to know in order to take action on that very day. From learning how to flight a pilot to using guns to to route these planes were to take on September 11. Throughout his journal he talks about the subjects that were found in this research. How was it possible for terrorist to attack on America soil? His three possibly theories where that 1) the 19 Islamic radicals caught the U. S. off guard, 2) the Bush administration knew about the attacks and let them to happen, and 3) such officials architected the attacks and caused them to happened. Based on this information I agree with what the researcher has come up with because to be honest we all know that back before September 11, our security at airports was not as advanced and as great as today’s security. Back then we did no have the machine where one is to step in and it sees your body or detect the metal in your clothing. I honestly do not remember going through all that process when I was younger and would travel, but I cannot say the security did this and this because I was younger ,and did not pay attention to my surroundings. We do know that the government did have an understanding of the Twin Towers attack before occurring, yet they did not put mind to this situation. We know that inside the government there was lack of communication, but there was also lack in unity. The 9/11 Report book talks about many different subjects, but it also mentions the actions government took against the treats from Usama Bin Laden towards the Twin Towers. In this graphic adaptation is states how Richard Clarke wrote a memo to colleagues saying, â€Å"When these attacks occur, as they likely will, we will wonder what more we could have done to stop them† (Jacobson and Colon 79). This memo clearly tells us that our administration was well aware of Al Qaeda’s plans. If we look at the word â€Å"united† its most common definition is combined, connected. Now if we put these words in front of state United States means a state where administration is connected to its people; where we are one whole family and need to look out for one another. By not taking into great consideration the treats that United States received and not believing such horrific even could happen on the most â€Å"goddess† land in the world, our connection grew apart, because although many of us knew of previous attacks and government had a warning of an income one, we did not unite to fight for our land. I’m not saying we needed to start war, but by having better airport security back then and making it less easy for Muslims to have entered the United States, we would have been saying,â€Å"our gloves are on and we are ready to fight the war, if it means to keep our people safe. † Unity is something everyone has with someone. So why can’t our government keep their unity chain stronger and together as years pass. It seems that Al Qaeda in this case and in many other have had more unity then United States it self. The Al Qaeda knew what the plan was, knew which action they each had to take on that day. The Twin Tower attack was not the beginning of terrorist in America; terrorist were simply saying, â€Å"Look what we can do in your land. † The construction of the Freedom Tower to me signifies that we have not yet learned from our mistakes eleven years ago. We are calling for trouble because we want to show terrorist we are a land that can do anything and build a taller building then the ones they collapsed. This is one of the most important philosophy of consumers and producers. Both the concept is based on selfish motives of maximising returns in terms of their efforts that is money. Since an economy consists of various economic agents with diverse interests, allocating resources optimally becomes an intricate task. Economic planners have two mutually opposing means to solve this allocation problem: planning versus competition. Which avenue will be adopted by the planners depends crucially on their value judgments. WHAT IS A MARKET? â€Å"Originally† says Jevons, : a market was a public place in a town where provisions and other objects were exposed for sale; but the world has been generalised so as to mean any body of persons who are in intimate business relations and carry on extensive transactions in any commodity. In the words of Cournot, a French economist, â€Å"Economics understand by the term market not any particular market placec in which things are bought and sold but the whole of any region in which buyers and sellers are in such free intercourse with one another that the price of the same goods tends to equality easily and quickly.† Thus, the essentials of market are: A commodity which is dealt with. The existence of buyers and sellers A place, be it certain region, country or entire world. Such intercourse between buyers and sellers that only one price should prevail for the same commodity at the same time. PERFECT COMPETITION Perfect competition is a theoretical market structure. Perfect competition is the world of price-takers. A perfectly competitive firm sells a homogenous product. It is so small relative to its market that it cannot affect the market price; it simply takes the price as give. Under perfect competition, there are many buyers and sellers, and prices reflect supply and demand. Also, consumers have many substitutes if the good or service they wish to buy becomes too expensive or its quality begins to fall short. New firms can easily enter the market, generating additional competition. Companies earn just enough profit to stay in business and no more, because if they were to earn excess profits, other companies would enter the market and drive profits back down to the bare minimum. Real-world competition differs from the textbook model of perfect competition in many ways. Real companies try to make their products different from those of their competitors. They advertise to try to gain market share. They cut prices to try to take customers away from other firms. They raise prices in the hope of increasing profits. And some firms are large enough to affect market prices. But the perfect competition model is not an ideal that we should try to achieve in the real world. Features of Perfect Competition There are many small firms, each producing an identical product . Each too small to effect the market price. The perfect competitior faces a completely horizontal demand curve. The extra revenue gained from each extra unit sold is therefore the market price. However Perfect Competition is as important economic model to compare other models. It is often argued that competitive markets have many benefits which stem from this theoretical model. In the Industry price is determined by the interaction of Supply and Demand. The firm will maximise output where MR = MC at Q1 In the Long Run Firms will make Normal profits. If Supernormal profits are made new firms will be attracted into the industry causing prices to fall. If firms are making a loss then firms will leave the industry causing price to rise.[3] Assumptions behind a Perfectly Competitive Market Many suppliers each with an insignificant share of the market – this means that each firm is too small relative to the overall market to affect price via a change in its own supply – each individual firm is assumed to be a price taker An identical output produced by each firm – in other words, the market supplies homogeneous or standardised products that are perfect substitutes for each other. Consumers perceive the products to be identical Consumers have perfect information about the prices all sellers in the market charge – so if some firms decide to charge a price higher than the ruling market price, there will be a large substitution effect away from this firm All firms (industry participants and new entrants) are assumed to have equal access to resources (technology, other factor inputs) and improvements in production technologies achieved by one firm can spill-over to all the other suppliers in the market. [4] IMPERFECT COMPETITION Imperfect competition is a competitive market situation where there are many sellers, but they are selling heterogeneous (dissimilar) goods as opposed to the perfect competitive market scenario. As the name suggests, competitive markets that are imperfect in nature. Imperfect competition is the real world competition. Today some of the industries and sellers follow it to earn surplus profits. In this market scenario, the seller enjoys the luxury of influencing the price in order to earn more profits. It prevails in an industry whenever individual sellers have some measure of control over the price of their output. Take the example of Coco-cola and perpsi together have the majpr share of the market, and imperfect competition clearly prevails. If a seller is selling a non-identical good in the market, then he can raise the prices and earn profits. High profits attract other sellers to enter the market and sellers, who are incurring losses, can very easily exit the market. The major types of imperfect competition are: monopoly, oligopoly and monopolistic competition. Monopolistic Competition: This market structure is characterized by a large number of relatively small competitors, each with a modest degree of market controlon the supply side. A key feature of monopolistic competition is product differentiation. The output of each producer is a close but not identical substitute to that of every other firm, which helps satisfy diverse consumer wants and needs. Oligopoly: This market structure is characterized by a small number of relatively large competitors, each with substantial market control. Oligopoly sellers exhibit interdependent decision making which can lead to intense competition among the few and the motivation to cooperate through mergers and collisions. Monopoly: Monopolies are thus characterized by a lack of economic  competition  to produce the  good  or  service  and a lack of viablesubstitute goods. Monopoly is an enterprise that is the only seller of a good or service. In the absence of government intervention, a monopoly is free to set any price it chooses and will usually set the price that yields the largest possible profit. Just being a monopoly need not make an enterprise more profitable than other enterprises that face competition, the market may be so small that it barely supports one enterprise. But if the monopoly is in fact more profitable than competitive enterprises, economists expect that other entrepreneurs will enter the business to capture some of the higher returns. If enough rivals enter, their competition will drive prices down and eliminate monopoly power. The primary conclusion is that a perfectly competitive firms short-run supply curve is that segment of its marginal cost curve that lies above the average variable costcurve. A perfectly competitive firm produces the quantity of output that equates marginal revenue, which is equal to price, and marginal cost, as long as price exceeds average variable cost. The profit-maximizing choices of output at alternative prices generate the perfectly competitive firms short-run supply curve. Consider three key points: A profit-maximizing firm produces the quantity of output that equates marginal revenue and marginal cost (MR = MC). A perfectly competitive firm is characterized by the equality between price and marginal revenue (P = MR). The law of diminishing marginal returns gives the marginal cost curve a positive slope. Combining all three points means that a profit-maximizing perfectly competitive firm produces the quantity of output that equates price and marginal cost (P = MC). An increase in the price, moves the profit-maximizing quantity to a higher point on the positively-sloped marginal cost curve, and a larger production quantity. A decrease in the price, moves the profit-maximizing quantity to a lower point on the positively-sloped marginal cost curve, and a smaller production quantity. REAL WORLD SCENARIO In the post independence era, India adopted highly restrictive industrial policy. India’s industrial licensing policy created entry barriers for private enterprises in sectors earmarked for them and hence didn’t promote ‘perfect competition’. Indian planners who believed in the doctrine of ‘infant industry argument’ provided necessary protection to domestic manufactures from foreign competition by way of tariff barriers. During this regulated regime, however, India’s industrial growth rate was not promising. In India, under Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), industrial licensing policy was abolished and tariff and quantity restrictions on imports were also dispensed with. Thus the New Economic Policy made an effort to promote a competitive market system in India. As a result India’s industrial sector started showing some signs of improvement in terms of growth.[7] In the real world, situations like perfect market exists for markets for most of unbranded staple goods such as food grain and vegetables. However it should be noted that there is a trend of branding more and more of such goods also, and in this ways making their markets become more and more like oligopolistic markets. In a monopoly like in Saudi Arabia the government has sole control over the oil industry. A monopoly may also form when a company has a copyright or patent that prevents others from entering the market. Pfizer, for instance, had a patent on Viagra. In an oligopoly, assume, for example, that an economy needs only 100 widgets. Company X produces 50 widgets and its competitor, Company Y, produces the other 50. The prices of the two brands will be interdependent and, therefore, similar. So, if Company X starts selling the widgets at a lower price, it will get a greater market share, thereby forcing Company Y to lower its prices as well. There are two extreme forms of market structure: monopoly and, its opposite, perfect competition. Perfect competition is characterized by many buyers and sellers, many products that are similar in nature and, as a result, many substitutes. Perfect competition means there are few, if any, barriers to entry for new companies, and prices are determined by su pply and demand. Thus, producers in a perfectly competitive market are subject to the prices determined by the market and do not have any leverage. For example, in a perfectly competitive market, should a single firm decide to increase its selling price of a good, the consumers can just turn to the nearest competitor for a better price, causing any firm that increases its prices to lose market share and profits. CRITICISMS OF PERFECT COMPETITION The use of the assumption of perfect competition as the foundation ofprice theoryfor product markets is often criticized as representing all agents as passive, thus removing the active attempts to increase ones welfare or profits by price undercutting, product design, advertising, innovation, activities that the critics argue – characterize most industries and markets. These criticisms point to the frequent lack of realism of the assumptions ofproduct homogenity and impossibility to differentiate it, but apart from this the accusation of passivity appears correct only for short-period or very-short-period analyses, in long-period analyses the inability of price to diverge from the natural or long-period price is due to active reactions of entry or exit. Some economists have a different kind of criticism concerning perfect competition model. They are not criticizing theprice taker assumption because it makes economic agents too passive, but because it then raises the question of who sets the prices. Indeed, if everyone is price taker, there is the need for a benevolent planner who gives and sets the prices, in other word, there is a need for a price maker. Therefore, it makes the perfect competition model appropriate not to describe a decentralize market economy but a centralized one. This in turn means that such kind of model has more to do with communism than capitalism. Another frequent criticism is that it is often not true that in the short run differences between supply and demand cause changes in price; especially in manufacturing, the more common behaviour is alteration of production without nearly any alteration of price. CONCLUSION In this industrial and competitive world not everyone has a chance to excel. Sometimes there is boom period in the economy when the firm’s income flourishes while at other times there can be a depression which will create losses for the firm. It is thus a firm’s ability to manage its resources carefully and feasibly. Why do consumers spend their income on new brands? A classical reference may be in order: â€Å"The love of novelty manifests itself equally in those who are well off and in those who are not. For . . . men get tired of prosperity, just as they are afflicted by the reverse. . . . This love of change . . . opens the way to everyone who takes the lead in any innovation in any country.† Thus, in an economy there will be different types of market and each market will have its own pros and cons it just depends on the various innovations they undertake to attract more consumers. The Alien and Seditions Act The debate over the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 revealed bitter controversies on a number of issues that had been developing since the penning of the Constitution. The writers of the document knew that over time the needs of the nation and its people would change, and therefore provided for its amendment. But by not expressly delegating powers to specific organizations, whether the federal government, state governments, or the people themselves, they inadvertently created a major problem in the years to follow. The two parties, Federalists and Republicans interpreted the Constitution in terms of how this interpretation would fit their very different interests. The result of these differences were the Alien and Sedition Acts, followed closely by the secretly formed Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions. Passed in early 1798, the Acts laid down a number of harsh restrictions on foreigners. They were enacted by a Congress dominated by the Federalist Party and signed by President John Adams during a crisis with France. Though the acts were allegedly in response to the hostile actions of the French Revolutionary government on the seas and in the councils of diplomacy, they were designed to destroy Thomas Jefferson's Republican party, which had openly expressed its sympathies for the French Revolutionaries. Depending on recent immigrants from Europe for much of their voting strength, the Republicans were adversely affected by the Naturalization Act. It postponed citizenship, and thus voting privileges until the completion of 14, rather than 5, years of residence. It also empowered the president to arrest and deport aliens considered dangerous. The Alien Enemies Act provided for the deportation of subjects of foreign powers at war with the United States. The Sedition Act made it illegal to publish certain statements against the government, oppose lawful acts of the Congress of the United States and aid a foreign power in plotting against the United States; all considered seditious acts; hence the name of the law. The contents of the Alien Act were either ignored or welcomed by most Americans. It was accepted that people from foreign countries were enemies of the nation and, as their leaders had taught them, impressed upon then undemocratic principles. There was also a sense of isolation. most Americans had difficulty believing themselves to be even a part of the United States; most never left the states in which they lived and considered themselves more Virginians or Alabamians than Americans.

The Marx Brothers In his book entitled Creating Minds, Howard Gardner (1993) engaged in a thorough study of creativity. He did this by studying the lives of exceptional creators in seven different domains in search of trends that could be readily identified and, perhaps, even help to paint a clearer picture of what the ingredients for creativity are. After examining these creators' lives he came to some conclusions based on the trends he identified and formed a model of creativity. In order to test both his model and his findings, it is necessary to extend the search (and study) beyond his initial seven great creators. In doing this it becomes possible to refute or add credence to his conclusions. This extension also allows for further questions to be asked. During the reading of Creating Minds I happened upon an interesting thought: Could Gardner's model for creative individuals be applied to the study of a creative group? Furthermore, would a group show similar trends in their creative development? If I was going to attempt to answer this question I decided I would have to qualify what a creative group was. I defined a creative group as a group of individuals producing a single creative work. The creativity of this work must be a result of the combination of the individuals' strengths being pooled (as equally as possible) to produce an output that could not have been produced by any of the individuals on their own. The group would be analogous to Gardner's individual creator, and the group's combination of mental talents would parallel the individual creator's personal array of intellectual strengths. Having defined what a creative group was, it became necessary to ask perhaps an even more important question: Could such a group exist? If so, could an example be found? The answer to both questions, I decided, was yes. But who? My ponderings on this subject invariably brought me to the Marx Brothers, kings of comedy. My Method In his study Gardner had followed the lives of his chosen creators and examined the progression of their works as a function of the creator and his or her surroundings. It would be difficult to treat the progression of a group in precisely the same manner. If I chose to treat the group as a single unit and reported on its progress and surroundings, the workings of its component creators could be lost.
